Course outline
Leadership Defined
Leadership is explored looking from Jungian archetypes to Daniel Goleman’s Emotional Intelligence. Participants reflect on personally influential role models and their particular leadership style and traits. An overview of the ClubsNSW Capability Framework is given which sets the tone for the rest of the course.
Leadership and Service Orientation
Using the Capability Framework element of Service Orientation, participants study how to involve stakeholders and others by improving listening skills and being inclusive in dealing with others. Participants also reflect on how personal behaviour enhances the image of the club.
Leadership and Influence and Collaboration
Using the Capability Framework element of Influence and Collaboration, participants demonstrate how to display leadership in decision-making as well as understand the flow of communication and how to negotiate and persuade. Communicating with different generations is investigated and participants will gain insight into conflict on boards and how conflict can actually improve teamwork.
Leadership in a Commercial Context
Using the Capability Framework element of Commercial Orientation, participants will gain a broad understanding of the board’s role in strategic planning and financial management versus management’s role. The importance of personal and organisational values is reviewed and participants will engage in personal and organisational goal setting
Leadership and Governance
Using the Capability Framework element of Corporate Governance, participants will understand the relationship between good corporate governance, documented evidence, reporting procedures and decision making. The role of directors, CEO and board as a whole will be reviewed and participants will look carefully at how the promotion of good corporate governance increases member and stakeholder confidence.
Leadership Through Change
Using the Capability Framework element of Continuous Improvement and Evolution, the leader to lead for change is explored. Being the type of person to recognise a need for change and seeing the way towards it is rare. Participants research the importance of engaging in new futures and how to promote continuous improvement in governance. The influence of professional development on leaders is considered as is the importance of reflection.
About DiSC
As part of this course participants will complete a self-assessment to determine your DiSC (dominant, influencing, stabilising and conscientious) behavioural style; this profile is a terrific team building tool and will assist in understanding personal behavioural preferences without comparison to others or in a judgemental manner.
