History of Clubs in NSW
The history of the club industry in NSW prepares a solid basis for understanding why clubs operate in the manner they do today and the challenges for directors and CEOs in the future.
The Law
Key legislation is covered at a broad level as participants gain an understanding of the Corporations Act 2001, Registered Clubs Act 1976, Liquor Act 2007, Gaming Machines Act 2001, Occupational Health and Safety Act 2000 and Equal Opportunity Act. Explore the club’s constitution and its relationship to legislation.
Responsibilities of a Director
Following on from The Law, directors’ specific legal responsibilities are covered in detail. This includes information on confidentiality, material personal and pecuniary interest, contracts and negotiations and disposal of core property.
Role of a Director
The role of a director is complex and combines important aspects of good corporate governance with providing strategic leadership and acting as an ambassador for the club. Investigated is what is meant by good corporate governance and key documentation and policy that directors are required to develop.
Compliance
Financial reporting is broadly discussed as well as director responsibilities under the Anti-Money Laundering Counter Terrorism Financing Act (AML/CTF) 2006.
