Course outline

Understanding Financial Concepts and Reports
Explore the key differences between statutory and management reports. The major components of a statutory financial report are surveyed with reference to the Corporations Act 2001. Case studies and many worked examples are provided to build confidence in the ability to, not only read, but interpret the figures.

Monitoring Financial Performance
Budgeting has a central role in a financial framework of a club. Explore the budgeting process and the various methodologies to create a budget linking with strategic objectives. Calculate and interpret the common financial performance ratios used by registered clubs including EBITDA and EBITDARD, wages % and department reliance ratios (amongst others).

Managing Business Change
Major change in the broader economic and social environment has flow-on effects on clubs’ financial planning. Investigated are several major types of change, the role of directors in strategically and financially preparing the club for change and the various activities undertaken by clubs in seeking to manage change.

Managing Financial Risk
Management, directors and external auditors all have different roles to play when considering financial risk. Explore different types of internal control processes and common types of fraud and detection methods.
