Course outline

This project has been assisted by the New South Wales Government through its Energy Efficiency Training Program. 

Sustainability & Energy Efficiency
What is energy efficiency; why is it important; understanding your role & influence to drive energy efficiency; top Management support; understanding Clubs as unique buildings; and reporting and communication.

Renewable and Non-renewable Energy
Understanding different energy sources & their related Co2 emissions; what options are available; understanding the components of your bill; power factor correction and its benefits; general overview of renewable energy options.

Hot water heating
Solar hot water systems; evacuated tube technology; understanding heat pumps & their application; integration of heat pumps with other uses (e.g. pool heating); retro-fitting capability of hot water systems; closed loop hot water systems; and gas fired hot water systems.

HVAC
Understanding the principles of HVAC; energy consumption of fans & pumps; options are available; immediate changes for improved energy efficiency; importance of HVAC controls; co-generation / tri-generation options; maintenance for improved efficiency; principles of heat exchange; variable speed drive technology; importance of sub-metering; and improved efficiency for cooling towers.

Lighting
Lighting options available; energy consumption comparisons; life-cycle analysis comparisons; and lighting control options.

Green Building Principles
Passive design techniques; understanding the importance of orientation and solar control; solar heat gain and its effects; use of thermal mass; effective shading for improved energy efficiency; the role of glazing in energy efficiency & how it can be improved; natural ventilation; and use of natural light to improve energy efficiency.

Monitoring and evaluation
Collecting performance data; establishing benchmarks; set future targets (with timeframes); performance metrics.
