The Minister for Liquor, Gaming and Racing decided in 2000 that CDSE should have a broad consultative and advisory process, based on the establishment of Local Committees in which qualifying clubs and key community service agencies would participate. CDSE Local Committees have been established on the basis of Local Government (council) areas (LGAs) and have a core membership of:
- Representative/s of CDSE qualifying clubs;
- Representative/s of the local council;
- Representative/s of the Department of Community Services (DoCS);
- Representative/s of the Council of Social Service of NSW (NCOSS) or a major local or regional affiliate of NCOSS; and
- Representative/s of the local Aboriginal community where appropriate.
A CDSE Local Committee must be formed in LGAs where the club(s) have a combined Category 1 liability that is greater than $30,000. Voluntary Local Committees can also be formed, in line with the Guidelines, in LGAs where the liability is below $30,000, if all parties agree.
The key roles, responsibilities and operational procedures of CDSE Local Committees are clearly outlined in Chapter 5 of the CDSE Guidelines(see pages 16 to 19). Additional resources for Local Committees are available for download below.
