Commonwealth Productivity Commission Inquiry

The Australian Government has asked the Productivity Commission to undertake a public inquiry into Gambling. The inquiry extends and updates the Commission’s 1999 inquiry, addressing key changes to the gambling industry such as the growth of internet gambling and new harm minimisation measures in each State and Territory.

The inquiry commenced on 24 November 2008 with the release of an Issues Paper. A draft report is scheduled for release in late 2009 with the final report due to be published before in early 2010. ClubsNSW supports the inquiry and is of the belief that the Terms of Reference for the inquiry will allow for a balanced and robust investigation of the Australian gambling industry.

ClubsNSW, through ClubsAustralia, has developed a comprehensive submission to the Commission and will participate in public hearings and consultations. Submissions from numerous Member Clubs were sent in, outlining the important economic and social contribution individual clubs make to the community.
