Laws Permitting Clubs To Hold Virtual Member's Meetings
On 6 May 2020, the Corporations (Coronavirus Economic Response) Determination (No. 1) 2020 commenced, which will give clubs flexibility to hold virtual members’ meetings – including an AGM or a meeting to approve an amalgamation. The Determination can be found here.
The flexibility to hold virtual meetings will apply to meetings held on or before 5 November 2020, by clubs which are public companies. The legislation effectively overrides any restrictions on holding virtual meetings in a club constitution. However, a club will need to comply with other meeting requirements in its constitution.
More information and guidance on this can be found in circ 20-063.
