NSW Premier's Comments On Cafes & Restaurants In Clubs

In an interview on Sunrise this morning, the NSW Premier, Gladys Berejiklian, appeared to suggest that restaurants and cafés in clubs and pubs cannot open this coming Friday, 15 May 2020.

The first step in easing economy-wide restrictions is scheduled to occur in NSW on Friday – which will allow restaurants and cafés to permit groups of up to 10 patrons at any one time.

It was not clear whether the Premier was suggesting that all types of dining facilities in a club would need to remain closed on Friday and, if so, the rationale for permitting up to 10 patrons in a small café but not in a large dining facility in a club.

It is noted that legislation has not yet been enacted to give effect to the easing of restrictions this Friday. ClubsNSW is seeking clarity on the status of dining facilities in clubs as a matter of priority.

ClubsNSW will provide a further update to Member Clubs following the release of legislation or further clarification of the approach by the NSW Government.
