COVID-19 Updates 20th December, 2020

1:00pm, 20th December, 2020

Member clubs are advised that the NSW Premier, Gladys Berejiklian, has announced the reimposition of the 4 square metre rule and the 300 patron internal capacity limits on hospitality venues in Greater Sydney, the Central Coast and the Blue Mountains from midnight tonight, 20 December.

The duration of the restrictions will depend on how long the latest outbreak of COVID-19 transmissions takes to be brought under control. Premier Berejiklian advised that an update will be provided on Wednesday, 23 December, ahead of Christmas.

“We realise the effect this will have on residents and venues and hope to lift the cap and restrictions as soon as possible,” the Premier said.

Singing and dancefloors will also be prohibited, however, up to 20 people may dance if they are in a bridal party. Given the circumstances, these changes will effectively require clubs in Sydney, the Central Coast and the Blue Mountains to refrain from holding live entertainment. Clubs outside these areas are encouraged to consider stricter controls on live entertainment.

The Public Health Order giving effect to the NSW Government’s announcement has not yet been enacted and several details are yet to be confirmed.
