COVID-19 Updates - 23rd September, 2021

3:00pm, 23rd September, 2021

Minister for Customer Service, Victor Dominello, has announced that the “vaccine passport” will be trialled in parts of regional NSW from 6 October 2021.

The Minister announced that the trial will take place in select clubs and aged care facilities.

The trial locations will be determined by the NSW Government.

The vaccine passport is intended to give businesses a simple and reliable option to ensure that patrons, staff and contractors entering the premises are fully vaccinated or medically exempt.

The NSW Government has also announced that the vaccine passport is unlikely to be available when clubs reopen only to fully vaccinated or medically exempt people — currently projected to be on 11 October 2021.

While the public health order setting out the reopening standards has yet to be made, in the absence of the Service NSW passport, clubs will be required to check a patron’s vaccine or exempt status using other means, including the Digital COVID-19 Certificate on the Medicare Express app, a hard-copy vaccination certificate, or a medical exemption.
