A Newcastle club has helped raise more than $25,000 for men's mental health, bringing together 130 golfers for a charity golf day.

Toronto Diggers has helped raise more than $25,000 for men’s mental health after bringing together 130 golfers for an inaugural charity golf day supporting local organisation Talk2mebro.

The event united clubs and communities from across the Newcastle and Hunter region at Easts Leisure & Golf. It turned a day on the fairways into vital funding for a charity dedicated to improving men’s mental health, reducing social isolation and encouraging meaningful conversations between mates.

As Mental Health Month continues across NSW, the fundraiser highlighted the importance of connection and community at a time when organisations across the state are encouraging people to prioritise their mental wellbeing and check in on those around them.

Toronto Diggers CEO Matt Johnston said the overwhelming support highlighted the community’s commitment to getting behind an important cause.

“The day was a huge success,” Matt said. “It’s an incredible result and one that everyone involved should be extremely proud of.”

With men continuing to be less likely to seek help and experiencing higher suicide rates, the fundraiser sought to support Talk2mebro’s work encouraging men to connect, speak openly and access support when they need it.

“Talk2mebro does critical work assisting men through life’s challenges and we’re thrilled to have been able to contribute in a meaningful way,” said Matt.

The success of the inaugural event has sparked plans to build on the initiative in the years ahead, with organisers hoping to continue supporting Talk2mebro and shine a light on the importance of men’s mental health.

“We’re already looking forward to building on this and making next year’s event even bigger and better,” said Matt.
