Mandatory Director Training Course (MDT)
As a director of a registered club, there are some training obligations that must be met. For further requirements and clarification visit Liquor and Gaming.
NB: If you are an Honorary Secretary Manager there are additional courses outside of director training required.
View course detailsThis course is required under the Registered Clubs Regulation 2025. It provides directors with an understanding of the complex role and responsibilities of a club director, including corporate governance, legislation, strategic and succession planning, and compliance requirements.
This course is required under the Registered Clubs Regulation 2025. The course provides directors with a practical understanding of financial management in the not-for-profit club environment. Participants learn how to interpret key financial reports, monitor organisational performance, assess financial risks, and make informed decisions that support strategic objectives and financial sustainability. The course also focuses on understanding balance sheets, profit and loss statements, cash flow reporting, budgets, key industry ratios, and reporting obligations, enabling directors to confidently oversee the financial health of their club.
This course is required under the Gaming Machines and Liquor (Harm Minimisation Measures) Regulation 2024. Responsible Gambling Board Oversight (RGBO) is a mandatory training program that equips club directors with the knowledge and capabilities to foster and lead a culture of responsible gambling at the board level. The course addresses key governance responsibilities, including board oversight, auditing processes, and reporting obligations.

This fully online self-paced, course ensures an engaging learning experience. The commencement and completion of the course is flexible to suit your needs.
This training allows you to complete micro-learning modules of approximately 20 minutes each at any given time within a month after the date of commencement.

Virtual Training Requirements
Each student must log in separately and be able to access a Microsoft Teams meeting
Each students device (laptop, desktop or tablet) must have a working webcam and microphone to actively participate – webcams must remain switched on throughout training, excluding breaks.
Any director who has served on a club board for three consecutive years or more, up to and including 30th June 2013, can be deemed exempt from completing Mandatory Director Training. However, it is recommended as best practice to complete the course as a refresher. To be eligible for exemption, there needs to be sufficient evidence of the knowledge and skills required for good corporate governance. Directors will need to provide documentation and complete an online assessment to demonstrate competence.
Directors are required to maintain records of core training modules they have completed as they may form part of the L&GNSW regular compliance audits of clubs. To assess and obtain Recognition of Current Industry Knowledge (RCIK), Continuing Professional Development (CPD) and Credit Transfers (CT), please complete the online application.
