Required training for managers
Every registered club requires a Secretary Manager.
This title may vary depending on the size of your club. For example, CEO, General Manager or Honorary Secretary.
Required under the Liquor Regulation
If you are the approved Manager or Club Secretary, you may be required to undertake Licensee and Advanced Licensee training.
Licensee Training Course
The Licensee Training course is for those club managers whose clubs do not trade regularly past midnight.
Advanced Licensee Training Course
This course is additional to the Licensee Training course for operators who trade in a higher risk environment. For example, clubs that trade after midnight on more than 12 occasions in a 12-month period, or if your club is subject to any regulatory scheme, or as directed by L&GNSW or ILGA.
Time Frames and Exemptions:
Needs to be completed within 60 days of appointment.

Required under the Gaming Machines Regulation
In order to be a Manager or Secretary Manager of a club, you must have completed the Responsible Conduct of Gambling (RCG) course. This course will need to be refreshed every five years.

Required under the Gaming Machines and Liquor Amendment (Harm Minimisation Measures) Regulation 2024
This course provides managers with the practical skills required to proactively assist patrons who might be experiencing gambling harm.

Needs to be completed within two years of appointment.
This training is not required to be completed by the Secretary Manager when they are also a member of the board/governing body.

Virtual Training Requirements:
Each student must log in separately and be able to access a Microsoft Teams meeting
Each students device (laptop, desktop or tablet) must have a working webcam and microphone to actively participate – webcams must remain switched on throughout training, excluding breaks.
Students must also be able to complete the digital workbook while remaining connected to the course.
This course prepares AML/CTF Compliance Officers to understand their obligations and deliver AML/CTF compliance in registered clubs.

Course details
This course is exclusively delivered by the Australian Institute of Company Directors (AICD) in partnership with ClubsNSW. It is designed for directors with limited board experience or those who have not previously completed governance-related professional development. The course is also suitable for executives who report directly to the board, providing a strong foundation in governance principles and director responsibilities.
