Overview
A mandatory governance training program for club directors that covers director responsibilities, governance, financial literacy and Responsible Gambling Board Oversight (RGBO). It consists of the following courses conducted by ClubsNSW:
- Director Foundation and Management Collaboration
- Finance for Club Boards or
The completion of the following units of competency through a Registered Training Organisation.
- BSBOPS406 Participate in organisational governance
- BSBFIN501 Manage budgets and financial plans
The program is designed to help directors meet compliance obligations under the Registered Clubs Regulation 2025
Requirement
- Clubs with annual gaming revenue over $1 million: every director must complete MDT.
- Clubs with annual gaming revenue under $1 million: a minimum of two directors must complete MDT.
- Directors of clubs with gaming machine entitlements may also be required to undertake Responsible Gambling Board Oversight Training. View RGBO requirements.
Timeframes and exemptions
- Must be completed within 12 months of appointment to the board.
- Directors who possess their Advanced Responsible Conduct of Gambling (ARCG), or are directors of clubs with no gaming operations, need not complete the Responsible Gambling Board Oversight course.

Delivery method
- In-person classroom
- Virtual classroom
- Each student must log in separately and be able to access a Microsoft Teams meeting
- Each students device (laptop, desktop or tablet) must have a working webcam and microphone to actively participate – webcams must remain switched on throughout training, excluding breaks.
- Self-paced online course (excludes RGBO)
