ClubsNSW and Gotcha4Life are developing practical mental fitness resources for local sporting clubs across NSW.
Grassroots sport is about far more than winning or losing. For many young people, it is where they develop important life skills, form lasting friendships and build the confidence to navigate life’s ups and downs.
That is why ClubsNSW has partnered with Gotcha4Life to support the development of a mental fitness initiative for coaches and managers. The program will help them support young people and players in their clubs, while creating healthier sporting environments where connection, adaptability and help-seeking are encouraged.
Through the partnership, ClubsNSW is supporting Gotcha4Life to develop practical resources for coaches, managers and community club leaders. Developed by Gotcha4Life and housed within a phone app, the resources will be available to grassroots sporting clubs across NSW.
ClubsNSW CEO Rebecca Riant said community sport provides an important setting for young people to build strong relationships and support networks.
“For many young people, community sport is where lifelong friendships, support networks and important life skills are built,” Ms Riant said.
“That’s why it’s so important that clubs foster environments where wellbeing is valued alongside performance, and we’re proud to partner with Gotcha4Life to support that goal.”
The initiative will equip coaches and managers with practical ways to strengthen protective factors known to support mental health. This includes helping players build emotional adaptability, form meaningful social connections and feel confident seeking help when they need it.
These skills can be woven into everyday team culture and club life, without adding complexity for the volunteers who keep community sport running.
Gotcha4Life Head of Product and Mental Fitness Impact Jennifer Keyes said the digital resources are being designed specifically for the realities of grassroots sport.
“Coaches and managers will have access to easy-to-use resources and tools that fit naturally into training sessions, match days and volunteer-led club environments,” Ms Keyes said.
The initiative is set to launch in early 2027, with further details to be shared closer to the time.
Together, ClubsNSW and Gotcha4Life are helping community sporting clubs create environments that support and promote mental fitness for all young people.
