The NSW Government’s Standing Committee on Social Issues is undertaking an inquiry into the state of live music in NSW.
Clubs are a huge contributor to live music and the broader entertainment industry, with clubs providing approximately 7319 entertainment activities per month throughout NSW at an estimated economic benefit of $12 million per month.
The inquiry will be focusing on:
- Progress on the implementation of the recommendations in, and the Government response to, the parliamentary inquiry into ‘The music and arts economy in New South Wales’, established in 2017
- Progress on the implementation of the ‘NSW Contemporary Music Strategy’, released in December 2024
- Assessment of the impact of the NSW Government’s ‘Vibrancy Reforms’, including relevant legislative, planning and other changes
- An analysis of policy options for how the NSW Government and music industry can support the long term sustainability of the live music sector, including but not limited to:
- The establishment and protection of music venues
- Driving audience demand
- Supporting music careers
- Funding mechanisms
- Reduction of red tape or other barriers limiting live music activity.
- Any other related matters
ClubsNSW will be providing a submission to the inquiry, focusing on the key role clubs play in live music and providing feedback on further policy options that would assist clubs in delivering more live music.
