When the Australian Government announced in 2015 that it was taking an additional 12,000 refugees from Syria and Iraq, NSW clubs knew they could play an important role in facilitating their transition into Australian life. ClubsNSW, in conjunction with community-based not-for-profit organization, Settlement Services International and respected training provider Barrington’s conducted a pilot program designed to provide these new arrivals with long-term employment opportunities in Western Sydney clubs.
Five of the twelve graduates have now secured jobs in a variety of kitchen and front-of-house roles at the Blacktown Workers Club and Canley Heights RSL. This wonderful initiative is testament to the club industry’s ongoing efforts to include people from all walks of life and serve the diverse needs of the wider community.
